FAMRI H-Index: A Legacy of Scientific Impact

The H-index is an author-level metric that measures the productivity and citation impact of publications, initially used for an individual scientist or scholar. The H-index correlates with obvious success indicators such as winning the Nobel Prize, being accepted for research fellowships, and holding positions at top universities [1]Bornmann, Lutz; Daniel, Hans-Dieter (July 2007). “What do we know about the h-index?”. Journal of the American Society for Information Science and Technology. 58 (9): 1381–1385. … Continue reading. The index is based on the scientist’s most cited papers and the number of citations in other publications. The index has recently been applied to the productivity and impact of a scholarly journal[2] Suzuki, Helder (2012). “Google Scholar Metrics for Publications”. googlescholar.blogspot.com.br., and a group of scientists, such as a university, a department, an institution, or country [3]Jones, T.; Huggett, S.; Kamalski, J. (2011). “Finding a Way Through the Scientific Literature: Indexes and Measures”. World Neurosurgery. 76 (1–2): 36–38. … Continue reading.

Shortly after its inception, FAMRI would become a primary source of secondhand tobacco smoke science, with peer-reviewed science and publications emerging within a year of its establishment.

A 2013 study of FAMRI research by the American Institute of Biological Sciences (AIBS) measured FAMRI’S H-Index. The findings show that FAMRI’s impact was surpassed only by Harvard as an organization.
